With many Americans without employment or forced to work from home, many challenges arise. Some of the unwanted stressors the therapist at CAV Family Therapy is finding, but not limited to are related to parenting a depressed teenager deprived of social interaction; adult women struggling with anxiety and unable to find serenity in the mist of too many responsibilities; men who are struggling to be intimate with his partner due to feeling overwhelmed to provide for his family, and many more….

Let me first start by saying that stress is a natural response when we feel physical, emotional, and mental strain or tension. Stress can be pleasant feelings such as happiness, joy, and jubilee. However, stress usually associated with intense negative feelings.
Stress is a normal part of life. We experience it daily to some degree. However, in times, such as one that we are in (i.e. pandemic), stress is a burden that is having a detrimental effect to emotional, psychological, relational and mental wellness.

The common denominator unfortunate is stress and anxiety related.
Negative and unwanted forms of stress can cause havoc in one’s life and can single handedly send the individual into feelings of confusion, stagnation, lack of motivation, and intense mood swings.

Some of the toxic symptoms of stress are depression and unhappiness; agitation and anxiety; angry outburst and irritable mood; isolation and disassociation; overwhelm and psychical pain.
If you are experiencing these symptoms, it is time to engage in self-care practices such as meditation, exercise, yoga, healthy eating, boundary setting, or a daily brisk walk around your neighborhood. These are some examples of engaging in self-care.
The more you actively engage in self-care practices, the more efficient your body will release stored tension. However, if the stress is way too overwhelming to address on your own, it is time to seek professional counseling.
