We all experience sadness and the “blues” from time to time. However, a constant state of anguish and hopelessness is for more sinister. This is called clinical depression or major depression.
Clinical depression is marked by constant feelings of hopelessness, insomnia or hypersomnia, fatigue, loss of energy, recurrent thoughts of death and suicide, and feelings of worthlessness just to name a few. They symptoms are experienced for most of the day and for long periods of time.
Many struggling with depression, have difficulty concentrating and maintaining social relationships. It is challenging to get up in the morning, let alone, enjoy time with friends and family. Weight loss is very common with clinical depression. Self-image is usually seen in through unfavored lens.

The causes of clinical depression can be external or hereditary. Some are pre-disposed clinical depression tracing one or more family members struggling with it.
External causes of clinical depression usually involve consistent, persistent, and intense factors such as death or loss, history of abuse and violence, racism, societal unrest, drug and alcohol abuse and personal conflict.
